Panel work, circuits, devices and permits โ with your license number where the inspector expects it.
Electrical invoices carry more weight than most trades' paperwork because they end up attached to permits, inspections and, eventually, a home sale. Put your license number in the header, describe circuits by breaker size and where they run, and list the permit and inspection separately at cost. When a homeowner's realtor asks three years from now who did the panel, this invoice is the answer โ so write it like a document, not a receipt.

Electrical invoicing questions
Does my license number have to be on the invoice?
In most states, yes, and in the ones where it isn't required it still helps you. It tells the homeowner they hired a licensed electrician rather than a handyman with a pair of strippers, and it's the first thing an insurer or a title company looks for if the work is ever questioned.
How should I write up a panel change?
One line for the panel and breakers, one for labor, one for the permit and inspection, and a short note recording the old panel's make and amperage. Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels in particular are worth naming, because 'replaced the Zinsco' is the sentence that explains the price to anyone who reads it later.
Can I bill for the code violations I found but didn't repair?
You bill for the time it took to find them if you were on the clock, but the important thing is documenting them. List them on the invoice as findings, priced or not, so the customer can't say they were never told. It also turns into your next job more often than a verbal mention does.
Should an EV charger install be flat rate?
Usually yes, quoted after you've seen the panel, because the price swings entirely on capacity and run distance. Invoice it as a flat line with the amperage and the run length written into the description. If you had to add a subpanel or a load-management device, that's a separate line, not a surprise.
How do I handle a change order mid-job?
Write it before you do it. Send a revised estimate, get an okay in writing โ a text is fine โ and then let the final invoice show the original scope and the added scope as separate lines. Every dispute in this trade starts with work that was done first and priced afterwards.
What does this cost me?
Nothing to write, download or hand to your customer, and no cap on how many invoices you write. If your customer pays the invoice by card, we take 0.5% of that payment. Paid plans are optional and start at $9.99 a month โ that is receipt scanning, emailing from our address and your own logo on the invoice; Pro at $24.99 adds up to ten people on the account. The free plan never expires and has no invoice limit.
