Priced by breed, coat and behaviour โ€” with the extras that always come up already on the page.

Grooming prices are quoted by breed and paid by reality: the doodle that was booked as a full groom and arrived matted to the skin, the extra half hour for a dog that will not stand, the nail trim nobody mentioned. A quoted price with no lines under it means eating that difference or having an argument in the doorway with the dog in one hand. Itemising the groom โ€” bath, dry, clip, ears, nails, de-matting time โ€” turns it into a bill the owner can read, and gives you a record of what this dog actually takes, which is the number you quote from next time.

What to include on a dog grooming invoice

Dog Grooming invoicing questions

How do I charge for a badly matted dog without a fight?

Bill de-matting by the quarter hour, on its own line, and tell the owner before you start that it will be on the bill. Every groomer who does this reports fewer arguments than those who quietly raise the groom price, because the owner sees the choice being made rather than discovering the outcome.

Is a handling fee for a difficult dog reasonable?

It is normal, and it should never be a surprise. Name it on the invoice, mention it at drop-off, and keep it modest. A dog that takes two people or an extra forty minutes is real cost; a fee nobody warned about reads as a penalty for owning a nervous dog.

I groom out of a van โ€” does that change anything?

Only that a trip charge is normal and should be its own line, and that you will take payment on the driveway rather than at a counter. Every invoice carries a Pay button, so the owner can tap their phone before you pull away.

Should I take deposits?

For a first-time client or a big double-coat booking, yes. A no-show costs you a two-hour slot that cannot be refilled the same morning. Record it as a payment against the invoice so the balance on the day is simply what is left.

What if the dog needs a vet, not a groomer?

Stop, tell the owner, and write on the invoice what you found and what you did not do. Ear infections, hot spots and lumps under matting are the three that come up. Billing only for the bath and putting the reason in writing protects the dog and protects you.

Is there a limit on how many invoices I can write?

No. No cap on any plan, including the free one. Capping invoices would cap what we earn too: we take 0.5% only when a customer pays you by card.
